The Lottery Ticket
During Francis Bennett’s talk in Berkeley on March
29, someone asked for clarification: if awakening is something we have
all along, why is it such a big deal when we find it?
Francis said, “It’s like you bought a lottery
ticket for a $75 million lottery a year ago; you put the ticket in a drawer and
forgot about it, not knowing it was the winning ticket. A year goes by, and then you see something in
the news about the unclaimed ticket and you go to your drawer and you check all
the numbers and you realize you have it. How do you feel? Fantastic!
You have an unbelievable moment of rejoicing. But it was there all along. It was there when you couldn’t make your car
payment; it was there when you couldn’t buy groceries. It was there all along.”
“The kingdom
of heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field, which someone found and hid;
then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.” Mt 13:44
